No matter what you’re trying to accomplish, when it comes to your health, you must first find what truly ignites your reason or desire to accomplish what it is you want. In other words, you must find your inner motivation.
Let’s use weight loss for an exampleLet’s say that you want to lose 30 pounds.
You should be asking yourself some very important questions and then recording those answers. Once you have those answers, you will need to keep these motivational touchstones before you constantly as a reminder.
So let’s get started.
Now ask the following questions:Why do I really want to lose 30 pounds?
Answers:
I want to look and feel good about myself.
I don’t want to suffer through health problems like my mother and father.
I am afraid of permanently destroying my health and having a miserable life.
I want to feel sexy and attractive.
How will losing weight make my life better?
My health will improve.
I will have more energy to do fun things!
My self-esteem will improve and I’ll be a more confident person.
What’s stopping me from achieving my ideal body weight?
I haven’t been truly committed to eating healthier.
I haven’t worked out consistently.
I indulge in eating chocolate, ice cream and candy and other unhealthy things!
I’m a procrastinator.
So now, we need to construct a statement from the above answers. This statement should tell us what we’re doing wrong in two or three sentences. We should have the elements from at least two of our strongest answers, from each question in our statement, and it should be phrased in a way that accentuates “Why we’re failing!” Let’s look at the below example using the answers I’ve given.
In my above example, I haven’t been able to find the inner motivation to lose 30 pounds of body fat. So using my first answer I must phrase my statement to express why I haven’t found this motivation. Since my first answers are positive answers I must reverse the answers. Let’s look at my example below.
First Set of Answers
The reason I can’t lose 30 pounds is because my fear of health problems and my desire to look and feel good aren’t strong enough.
Second Set of Answers
Although I know my health, energy levels and self-esteem will all improve that hasn’t been a strong enough motivator for me to take the necessary steps.
Third Set of Answers
The truth is, I’m a procrastinator and I love eating junk food and I’m just not committed to eating healthy and exercising on a consistent basis.
The Revelation of Truth Sets Us Free
Right about now, you’re probably thinking, WOW… this is NOT GOOD! Well, you’re right, so now I want you to ask yourself this question.
“If I don’t change my ways what will happen to my body, mind and overall feelings about myself?”
You should answer this question according to your answers to the three previously asked questions… of course, I’ll give you another example.
My Future If I don’t Change “Example” (Inner Motivation)
If I don’t change my ways I’m going to become super obese, have a much greater chance of getting several cancers and diseases, start losing my capacity to exercise more as time goes by, age more rapidly and experience great depression and feel like absolute ___________.
Now the Positive (Inner Motivation) Statement
Now we’re going to take this statement and flip it… yes reverse it. Once we reverse it we will have our inner motivation to achieve whatever it is we desire. So here goes…
I’m going to change my ways and become a fit, slender, sexy person that is experiencing awesome health and fitness, looking and feeling better, as time goes by. I’m literally growing and feeling younger and experiencing positive mental boosts of energy and clarity and feeling like a super model.
So how do you find this inner motivation to accomplish your health and/or fitness related goal? Just do this exercise and then continue to refine it and obey the needed actions to make it a reality. It doesn’t have to be weight loss, you choose the goal! And remember, some will find the negative statement more motivational and others will find the positive statement so, you decide which provides you with the most motivation.
Read your answers frequently, read your future if you don’t change statement and read your positive statement. Make sure you read the one that you find the most motivational daily!
